———————————————————————————————————————————–

We cannot conceive of the history of CLIPSAS without referencing the personal input and leadership of Marc-Antoine Cauchie from 1993 to 2021.

Initiated in the Grand Orient of France, on Rue Cadet of Paris, he moved to Luxembourg in May of 1984, where he affiliated himself with the Grand Orient of Luxembourg; becoming Grand Master in 1991 and Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council of Luxembourg in 2003. He was re-elected to both institutions.

From 1990 he was in attendance of every General Assembly of CLIPSAS, Montreal 2019 being the only exception for health reasons.

He was President of CLIPSAS in 1993, 1996, 2000 and 2008.

At the General Assembly of Strasbourg in 2011, he was elected President of Honor of CLIPSAS, I had the honour of being his VP from 2008 to 2011, and from his illuminated mind there remains for me vast knowledge.

In his professional life, he was a Four-Star General of OTAN and a member of the Legion of Honor of the French Republic.

I embrace his wife, Teresa, his children and his grandchildren in this hour of sorrow.
Goodbye, my brother. On his grave a deposit the sprig of acacia.

In Africa, the Wise man Amadou Amphaté BA said “when an old man dies, a library burns down”.

We, members of CLIPSAS, can say the same thing after the departure of our Brother Marc-Antoine.

The motto of CLIPSAS is absolute freedom of conscience. Marc-Antoine was a fervent defender.

Marc-Antoine was the spine of this Association. He was the firefighter. Three times he was President of CLIPSAS, from 1993 to 1996, from 2000 to 2004 and from 2008 to 2011. He has been Honorary President since then.

This means that he spent more than thirty years defending an international fraternity whose solidarity meant a lot to him.

I cannot say here all that Marc-Antoine has done so that CLIPSAS can achieve global recognition and finally be received by the Economic and Social Council of United Nations.

If we are here today, it is to testify to the gratitude and love of approximately 50,000 Brothers and Sisters towards this Man, who has shown by his courage and perseverance that being a Mason is not only a way of being, but a way of living.

Personally, I have rarely seen Marc-Antoine, but he made a big impression on me and taught me a lot about life and about people.

He will forever remain as a strong pillar of our Association.

May he rest in peace.

Let us cry, let us cry, let us cry…but wait!
